Greek and Roman Pleasure Buildings : 6 Stadion at Athens

Greek and Roman Pleasure Buildings : 6 Stadion at Athens

The Stadion at Athens was started in 331 B.C. and is 600 feet long. Firstly used only for foot races, it was used at a later date for other athletic meetings. One end of the Stadion is straight with a semi-circular end at the other. Though many stadia were built into the side of hills, this stadion is constructed on the flat. In recent times this stadion in Athens has been restored and re-built to accommodate between 40,000 and 50,000 spectators.
