Greek and Roman Pleasure Buildings : 8 Theatre at Priene in Greece
The auditorium of this theatre dates from circa 300 B.C., but the raised stage is about a century later. The scene building was two storeyed and in front of this was built a one storey high proscenium with cross beams to the main wall carrying a timber roof. In front of the proscenium a row of half columns carried an architrave and Doric frieze. Painted scenery was bolted to the panels between these half columns.
